Department of Microbiology
Overview of the Department
The Department of Microbiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine aims to teach the sciences of microbiology and parasitology according to unified curricula adopted by all veterinary colleges in the country, for both undergraduate and master’s levels. In addition, the department conducts research related to these sciences in order to prepare veterinary doctors and scientific researchers in this field of knowledge.
The Message:
1 – Working diligently to provide third-year students with sufficient information in all specializations of microbiology, including pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and fungi that affect animals and humans, as well as the latest developments in this field, so that it serves as an introduction to other sciences in the following years, such as infectious diseases, poultry diseases, and zoonotic diseases.
2 – Providing students with up-to-date information necessary in immunology for microbiology and how to combat them using antibiotics and vaccines.
3 – Defining the role of the veterinarian in working in laboratories, public health, and veterinary vaccines.
Goals:
1 – Keeping up with developments in microbiology and immunology by updating curricula and encouraging instructors to stay updated in molecular biology and genetic engineering.
2 – Equipping microbiology laboratories with modern devices and tools for diagnosing microorganisms.
Vision: The Department of Microbiology aspires to be a scientific and research resource like other disciplines in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. This means providing sufficient information and knowledge in microbiology, including pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, and immunology, to enhance the capabilities of undergraduate and postgraduate students in diagnosing and controlling pathogens that threaten livestock.[eos]
