About the Central Library - University of Shatrah

Vision:

To raise the standard of the Library so that it becomes one of the libraries that rival Arab and international libraries and becomes an advanced centre for disseminating information and knowledge to achieve the University's educational, research and community objectives..

Mission:

To make the Library a leader in providing high-quality technical and information services using modern technology and techniques, keeping pace with the fields of research, development and electronic publishing; acquiring various information sources, organising them and facilitating their use; providing information services to beneficiaries and meeting their research and scientific needs; and providing a suitable environment for its users.

Objectives:

· Raising the competence of staff through continuous training to develop their abilities

· Supporting scientific research by providing scientific and research information sources to the various segments of the university community

· Transforming the Library into a digital environment by digitising its various sources

· Striving to provide suitable and appropriate services to all groups of the university community, taking into account their different needs

· Applying advanced technology to facilitate services and procedures.

About the Library:

In line with the decision to establish the University of Shatrah in 2021, the Central Library was established in 2023. It is the General Secretariat of the Central Library at the University of Shatrah. It has been keen to serve scientific research and provide services to beneficiaries of all categories, and has worked side by side with the other major libraries in Iraq. The Library derives its existence and objectives from the University itself; its objectives are therefore part of the University's objectives, and its mission is an integral part of the University's mission, which focuses on education, research and community service. The library is the heart of the university, providing its services to the University's students, researchers and professors.

Tasks of the Central Library:

- Acquiring references and university documentation in liaison with the libraries of the colleges and institutes.

- Organising the documentary holdings of the Central Library using the latest methods of processing and arrangement.

- Maintaining the documentary holdings of the Central Library and continuously updating the inventory process.

- Setting appropriate conditions for the use of the documentary holdings by students and professors.

- Assisting professors and students in their bibliographic research.

Tasks of the Technical Procedures Division:

· Classifying and cataloguing the library materials it receives from the Acquisitions Section according to the Dewey Decimal System, the system followed in all Iraqi libraries.

· Receiving books and publications sent to the Library by way of gift or exchange.

· . Sending books to universities and cultural institutions through the inter-library exchange system; in addition, it receives books sent as personal gifts by their authors and in turn sends them letters of thanks.
