In line with the National Strategy for Iraqi Women for the years (2023-2030) and at the direction of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers / National Department for Iraqi Women, the University of Shatrah participated in the training workshop on supporting women's political participation, held by the Women's Affairs Division in Dhi Qar Governorate with the support of the National Democratic Institute (NDI). The University was represented at the workshop by Lecturer Zainab Jawad Kadhim, head of the Women's Affairs Division at the University Presidency, and Asst. Lect. Mohammed Mahdi Sajit, a faculty member at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, who delivered a specialised lecture as part of the workshop activities, on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, in the hall of the Women's Affairs Department in Dhi Qar Governorate.
In this context, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, President of the University of Shatrah, stressed the importance of the University's participation in such activities, saying: “The University of Shatrah attaches great importance to empowering women and strengthening their presence in all fields, including the political field, in harmony with national directions and sustainable development plans. We are proud of the contribution of our academic staff in supporting these efforts with knowledge and scientific expertise.”
For her part, Lecturer Zainab Jawad Kadhim, head of the Women's Affairs Division at the University, explained: “The University's participation in this workshop embodies its active role in supporting women and empowering them politically and socially. We were keen for our presence to be influential and effective, contributing to strengthening the standing of Iraqi women and their voice in decision-making positions.”
Through this participation, the University of Shatrah affirms its commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at promoting women's rights and enabling them to perform their pioneering role in society.
