Under the patronage of the President of the University of Shatrah, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, the University Psychological Counselling Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Centre, organised an awareness seminar entitled "Digital Addiction: Risks and Solutions in the Age of Technology" today, Wednesday, 26 November 2025, in the Martyr Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis Hall, in the presence of the Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Raed Majeed Jabbar, and a number of faculty members, employees and students.
The seminar was presented by Lect. Dr. Sally Salih Jumaa and Asst. Lect. Dhiaa Abd Ati, who reviewed the most prominent manifestations of digital addiction in society, especially among students, along with the psychological and social effects resulting from the excessive use of smart devices and social media platforms.
The seminar included a scientific analysis of the mechanisms of the behavioural influence of modern technology, highlighting healthy ways of dealing with the digital environment and effective means of organising time and reducing addictive behaviours associated with the use of smartphones.
At the conclusion of the seminar, a series of recommendations was issued, stressing the importance of spreading a culture of digital awareness, adopting training and counselling programmes that contribute to building a safe and responsible digital university environment, and calling for the use of technology as a tool for development rather than a source of distraction or addiction.
