President of the University of Shatrah Receives Member of Parliament Hussein Al-Battat

The President of the University of Shatrah, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, received in his office on Thursday 22 January 2026 Mr. Hussein Al-Battat, Member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, on an official visit focusing on vital files related to the future of higher education in the province and the development of the infrastructure of academic institutions.

The meeting included a comprehensive review of the state of the University of Shatrah, during which Dr. Jarallah gave a detailed explanation of the university's basic needs and its plans to raise the academic and administrative level. The need to align educational outcomes with the requirements of the current stage was emphasised, so as to supply the labour market with specialised competencies that contribute to comprehensive development.

In a strategic step aimed at expanding the geographical reach of higher education, the two sides discussed the possibility of establishing a new university in the southern areas of Dhi Qar Province. The discussion addressed ways of drawing on the scientific and administrative expertise of the University of Shatrah's staff to serve as the cornerstone of this ambitious project, which would ease pressure on existing universities and bring educational services closer to the people of those areas.
