The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Shatrah examined the master's thesis of student Azhar Qasim, in which she presented an advanced comparative study entitled:
“Comparative Molecular Insights into TLR7-Mediated Innate Immune Responses in Humans and Animals”.
The study aimed to analyse the role of the TLR7 gene in regulating the innate immune response in humans and a number of animal species, through a molecular approach seeking to uncover the evolutionary differences between these species. The research included an assessment of differences in viral binding affinity and their implications for immune recognition capabilities and the intensity of the response among the organisms studied.
The results revealed qualitative variations in immune response mechanisms, which help explain the differences in susceptibility to viral diseases and the severity of symptoms among different species, in addition to enriching scientific understanding of the pivotal role played by the TLR7 gene in the first lines of defence of living organisms.
