In line with the ministerial programme for student activities, and under the patronage of the President of the University of Shatrah, Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Al-Ghazi, the university's Student Activities Department organised a classical poetry competition with the participation of students from the colleges, who presented their literary works in an organised competitive atmosphere.
The competition aims to strengthen the presence of Standard Arabic in the university community and to develop students' skills in recitation and literary expression, as well as to support student talent in the field of poetry.
The competition was held in the presence of a specialised jury composed of Asst. Prof. Dr. Asmaa Yousif Dayan, Lect. Dr. Ali Abdul-Zahra Majeed and Lect. Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Hadi Kadhim, who evaluated the entries according to approved artistic and linguistic criteria. The texts presented reflected an appropriate level of linguistic ability and expressive skill among the participating students.
The results of the competition saw student Riyadh Jaafar of the College of Engineering and student Yanar Ammar of the College of Applied Medical Sciences share first place, having obtained the same evaluation scores, while student Hassan Jalal of the College of Engineering came second and student Ali Talib of the College of Engineering came third.
The university affirms its keenness to support cultural and literary activities that help develop students' skills and strengthen the presence of the Arabic language in the university environment.
