- The College of Veterinary Medicine / University of Shatrah – Branch of Microbiology held the defence of the master's thesis of the student Arjuwan Muhsin Ajami, entitled:
- “Detection of Klebsiella Species from Various Secretions of Ruminants in Dhi Qar Governorate”.
- The study aimed to isolate and diagnose Klebsiella bacteria from the secretions of infected cattle. A total of (120) samples were collected, distributed as (40) samples of nasal secretions, (40) of vaginal secretions and (40) milk samples. The samples were cultured on various culture media and diagnosed on the basis of cultural characteristics and microscopic appearance.
- The results showed that all strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae were sensitive to all of these antibiotics at a rate of 100%. The results also indicate that the K1 and K2 genes were not detected in any of the Klebsiella pneumoniae samples, that all isolates carry the blaSHV gene, and that Klebsiella pneumoniae can be considered a major cause of various diseases affecting cattle.
- After an extensive scientific discussion, the committee recommended some amendments to the thesis, valuing the student's efforts in defending her research, and decided to award her the grade of Excellent.
