Asst. Prof. Dr. Rafi Muhsin Alwan, Head of the Department of English Language, took part in an intensive training course on updating and developing English language curricula in the English language departments of the colleges of education in Iraqi universities, under the supervision of the British Council and with the participation of all heads of English language departments in Iraqi universities.
The first stage of the course was held in the capital, Baghdad, and lasted two consecutive days from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., under the direct supervision of professors and experts from the United Kingdom specialising in English Language Teaching (ELT) and in developing university curricula in line with the latest international standards in language teaching.
The course also includes a second stage delivered online over two full months, aimed at following up the implementation of the plans and proposals developed during the first stage, as well as strengthening academic cooperation between Iraqi departments and universities and the British Council.
This participation comes within the efforts of the Department of English Language to raise the level of university education and develop curricula in a way that keeps pace with the requirements of the age and enhances students' English language abilities academically and professionally.
