The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Shatrah held, on Thursday 9 October 2025, the defence of a master's thesis in the Branch of Microbiology by the student Huda Raheem Ali, entitled “Enhancing the Activity of Antibiotics Against Drug-Resistant Bacteria Using Nanomaterials in Vitro”.
The study aimed to evaluate the role of nanoparticles in raising the efficiency of some antibiotics against drug-resistant bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results showed that combining nanoparticles with antibiotics increased their effectiveness and reduced bacterial resistance, as the (CNPs–Ceftazidime) combination achieved the highest effectiveness against P. aeruginosa, while the (CNPs–Erythromycin) combination was the most effective against S. aureus.
After an extensive scientific discussion, the examination committee recommended minor amendments to the thesis and awarded the student the grade of Excellent in recognition of her scientific and research efforts.
