The College of Veterinary Medicine held the defence of the Master's thesis submitted by the student Azhar Qasim, entitled:
“Comparative Molecular Insights into TLR7-Mediated Innate Immune Responses in Humans and Animals”.
The thesis presented a comparative study at the molecular level of the TLR7 gene and its role in regulating the innate immune response in humans and some animals, with an analysis of the evolutionary differences between species and an explanation of the differences in binding affinity to viruses and their immunological implications.
The study aimed to shed light on species-specific differences in the mechanisms of immune recognition of viruses and the extent to which these differences affect susceptibility to infection and the severity of the immune response among different species.
After an extensive scientific discussion that included the presentation and analysis of the results and answering the committee's observations, the thesis was approved with the grade of Excellent, subject to some amendments, in appreciation of the student's efforts and her distinction in preparing and defending the research.
