Lecturer from the College of Education for Girls takes part in a Master's thesis defence at Al-Muthanna University.
As part of scientific and academic cooperation among Iraqi universities, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hazim Hashim Mankhi, a lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Girls – University of Shatrah, took part as a member of the examination committee for the Master's thesis entitled:
«Representations of the Other in the Novels of Khudair Flaih Al-Zaidi», in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education for Humanities – Al-Muthanna University.
The defence took place on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, in the presence of a number of professors and researchers. The thesis dealt with the representations of the character of «the Other» in the Iraqi novel, the mechanisms of its formation within the narrative structure and its relationship to cultural, social and intellectual contexts.
The scientific defence took place in a rigorous academic atmosphere, to which Dr. Hazim Hashim Mankhi contributed scientific observations that enriched the scholarly dialogue on the subject of the thesis.
The thesis also addressed the novelistic construction of the character of «the Other» and the way the writer shapes the character's presence to represent difference from the narrating self or the central group in the novel, whether this difference is religious, cultural, class-based, intellectual or even psychological. It showed that the novelistic construction of the character of the Other is not limited to drawing external features, but is formed within a network of relationships, functions, symbols, points of view and conflict, and it situated the experience of the novelist Khudair Flaih Al-Zaidi within the movement of Iraqi narrative after 2003, together with the reflections of the political, social and intellectual reality on the new Iraqi narrative and its patterns of modernity.
This participation comes as part of the commitment of the teaching staff of the College of Education for Girls / University of Shatrah to academic openness and to strengthening scientific cooperation with Iraqi universities, contributing to supporting scientific research and the exchange of expertise.
