The President of the University of Shatrah, Professor Dr. Bassem Abdul Hussein Al-Ghazi, held the first meeting of the Center for Development and Poverty Studies, following the issuance of the ministerial order to establish the center, in a step that represents the official and practical launch of its work and the definition of its scientific, research and societal paths, today, Sunday, September 6, 2026, in the presence of the scientific assistant to the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Fadel Mohsen Hamad, and the administrative assistant to the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Raed Majeed Jabbar, along with the director of the center, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hassan Qasim and the center’s staff.
The meeting discussed a number of basic topics related to the establishment of the center and the mechanisms for carrying out its tasks, in line with the objectives of its establishment and its role in addressing priority development issues, especially those related to economic and social development and combating poverty, by employing scientific research and specialized studies to provide visions and solutions that contribute to supporting society and decision makers.
The meeting also included discussing the preparation of the centre’s strategic plan, setting the basic features of the course of action, and determining priorities for research and development studies that are compatible with current needs and challenges, as well as discussing mechanisms for launching and working and developing an integrated operational plan to implement the centre’s tasks and its scientific and community programmes.
The Center for Development Studies and Combating Poverty is a specialized qualitative center that aims to enhance the role of the University of Shatrah in the research and societal fields, consolidate its presence in studying development issues, and provide scientific treatments based on research and analysis, in a way that supports sustainable development paths and enhances community service.
